A training course “Paediatric Oncology for Cancer Registries” was organized by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in the week of 25–29 November 2013 for 40 participants working in European cancer registries. The course was conducted in the framework of the European Network for Cancer Research in Children and Adolescents (ENCCA). ENCCA is a Network of Excellence developed by SIOP Europe and funded by the European Union during 2011-2015. Attendance of several participants was supported by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Union. The course was held under the auspices of the European Network of Cancer Registries (ENCR), hosted at JRC.
Further needs for a similar course have been expressed by the course participants. However, before the relevant funds are identified to organize a new edition of this course, the course material is now being made accessible to any interested individual. Although access to the course material can in no case substitute for attendance at the course, it could still provide a rich resource of information that is difficult to reconstitute from other sources and help cancer registry personnel to understand the specific issues relevant to cancer in childhood and adolescence.
